Lesson number one: pianos are heavy. An old upright can weigh between 500 and 1000 pounds. Even if you have five grown men there to lift it, it won’t be a cake walk.
Lesson number two: pianos are large. When you’re trying to get them out of a house, and the door is only slightly larger than the piano, you can’t expect people to hold it on the sides. Just on the ends. Also, there’s only room for one person on each end. This also counts when you’re moving the piano into a house.
Lesson number three: pianos take up a lot of space. Meaning that finding space in your living room may be difficult. Meaning you still might not have found space. Also, your living room is a complete mess because of this.
I know that all three of those lessons seem pretty self-explanatory, but that’s where Lesson Number Four comes in to play.
Lesson Number Four: you may think you already know lesson numbers one, two and three. You don’t. Not until you’ve moved a piano.
Remember that big old piano we had when you were a child? It was painted orange when we got it. Spent a lot of hours removing that paint. We moved it around a few times including a second floor apartment. Not too fun.
Glad you’ve got yours in. Must’ve gone better than that couch we were unsuccessful moving in there.
Bottom line: if you’ve got a big piano it’s best not to move!
Yup. We’re stuck here now. 🙂
Got the piano in nicely now–we swapped furniture around in three different rooms, and I actually think each room looks much improved now. I’ll try to post pictures when I get a chance.
Poor Bryce
We stole the school’s truck with a lift on it to get ours into our house….
It was smaller than yours, although also as ugly…
Re: Poor Bryce
Mine isn’t ugly, thank you very much. The picture just doesn’t do it justice.
