Cat IQ Survey

Lest you be led to believe that I’ve stopped working on cat studies, allow me to disabuse you of the notion. Not only am I still working on cat studies, but we’re officially in the middle of our largest study yet!

This one is focused on trying to begin to explore cat intelligence. There have been quite a few studies around dog intelligence (likely because they are, on the whole, more agreeable to being studied), but the cat intelligence field has lagged behind. Cats don’t care nearly as much for human validation, which complicates matters.

So we’ve developed a questionnaire that humans take on behalf of their felines, using observed behavior over a long period of time to assess different aspects of intelligence. Is it the end-all-be-all of surveys? Nope. It’s a first draft, but you have to start somewhere.

While Facebook has been very loathe to share the videos we’ve made around the survey, TikTok has been much, much more enthusiastic. The two shorts we’ve posted in the last week (about our initial results from around 300 surveys) have gotten over 187,000 views total. We’re up to almost 3,000 followers, and we now have 2,613 responses (enough to run the data again and be much more confident in our results!)

It’s been exciting to see the results pour in, and to have it all be so well received by others. I’ll be making some new videos soon that I’ll post as soon as the current one’s views have cooled down a bit.

Now if I could only figure out how to get thousands and thousands of people to be as interested in my author TikTok . . .
