Happy Friday to you all! I’m very pleased to announce that Death in the Dark was selected as a 2026 CBC Teen Favorites winner. What does that mean, you ask? Each year, the Children’s Book Council selects over 60 schools to each receive 300-500 new books directly from the CBC. From August to February, students at those schools read the books and vote on their favorites. Death in the Dark was one of the top books in the 9th-12th grade category.
On top of this, the book is now available in Targets across the country. I visited the one in South Portland on Wednesday and found it right off. It’s in a special Midnight Reads display just for Sourcebooks selections.
It’s great to see the book getting some love, particularly by teens. Most of the reviews I end up coming across are by adults, which is all fine and good, but it’s not who I’m really writing for. On Thursday this week, I’ll be heading down to Freeport High School to do a school visit with them. I’m looking forward to hearing from them and working with classes .
In any case, that’s my good news for the day. If you happen to be out and about in Target over the next bit, keep an eye out for the display. Thanks for reading!
