Media Diet for 2.11.25

I’ve been pretty busy the last week, focused on making the app I’ve been toying with. (More info on that to come.) But I’ve had some time to see and read a bit, as well.

Movies:

I tried to watch Davy Crockett with the fam, but honestly, I just couldn’t get past a half hour. It was so (so) bad. I know I’m trying not to say bad things about media anymore, but this is old enough that I feel like I get a pass. I loved the movie when I was a kid. Who didn’t like Davy Crockett? But alas, it has not aged well. At all. The fight scenes are just abhorrent, the acting is nothing more than caricature, the plot simplistic . . . I turned to the girls a half hour in and asked them if they wanted to keep watching, and I got a resounding no. The only good thing I have to say is that I still liked the theme song. Sorry, Davy. For what it’s worth, I’d love to see a modern retelling of it, because I think it would be interesting to explore the folk hero some more, but the old Disney movie ain’t it.

TV:

Denisa and I have been rewatching the first season of Squid Game to prep for the second season. Still a riveting, albeit disturbing, show.

Books:

Rhythm of War: I finished it! Still really enjoyed it, and I was extra happy, as it meant I could finally do what I started the reread to do: begin reading Wind and Truth. (I’m 48% into it at the moment.)

Video Games/Board Games: None. Just too busy.

It’s interesting. In my head. I watch a bunch of stuff every week, but now that I’ve been doing this weekly report, it seems much clearer that while there are times when I watch a lot, by and large, I don’t do nearly as much as it feels like. Strong evidence of the value of keeping a time journal, or something like it. When you take a step back and really analyze what you do, the results can be surprising.
