What’s Bryce Reading and Watching? 8/24/26 Edition

Another week, another media report. I finished another book: That’s Not My Name, by Megan Lally. It’s a YA thriller about a teen who wakes up with amnesia after a seeming car accident with someone who may or may not be her father. I had a lot of fun with it, honestly. A very fast read, from two different POVs, with some fun twists along the way.

When it comes to moving pictures, I watched the next three episodes of Interview with the Vampire, and I was impressed by how much better they got. After the first few, I was on the edge of giving up on the series. It just seemed too easy for the main characters, as if the show was just going to be about vampires hanging out in New Orleans, killing people, with no real conflict. (I’m oversimplifying, granted.) Thankfully, the show soon provided plenty of conflict for them, in the form of each other. Quite liking it now.

We also finally started watching the 50th season of Survivor, and we’ve been enjoying that a lot. (It was never a favorite show of Daniela’s, but Michaela loves it, so it’s much easier to decide to watch it these days.) Then again, it’s nothing earth shattering. It’s Survivor.

I watched two movies on the plane ride to Utah. The first was The Flying Scotsman, a biopic about a Scottish cyclist vying to set a world record, riding on a bike he designed himself. It was a fine movie, though I think I need to remind myself to just watch escapist films on planes. I need things that can make me forget about where I am, and that’s a tall order when you know how much I hate flying. In other words, I think I would have liked this one more on my couch.

On the other hand, I also watched the new Masters of the Universe, and I loved it, even on a plane. Of course, that comes with a disclaimer: I was a huge He-Man fan when I was growing up. I had a bunch of the action figures and played with them regularly. This movie was a ton of fun, with a great soundtrack and a super blend of not taking itself too seriously while also still playing proper respect to fans. Seeing all those old heroes and villains brought to life on the big screen was a blast. I might have to watch it again on a bigger screen. (This likely says something about who I am, but whatever. Deal with it, people.)

And that’s it. We’ll see how much I can watch on vacation this week. I’m on the redeye back, so I’m not sure if I’ll actually be able to sleep or not.
