A Report on the Bangor Book Festival

This is easy, people: any book festival that provides free Dunkin’ Donuts is a book festival that demands my support. Demands, I say! I headed up to Bangor (pronounced BANG-gore for you flatlanders out there–it’s a hard “g”) for the festival this past weekend. TRC decided he wanted to come with me, and I’m very glad he did. (Though let’s be honest. I’m pretty sure a large reason for him wanting to come with was that I’d be driving for 3+ hours, and that meant he’d be able to play his 3DS for that amount of time. Who said having […]

Special Article Written by Yours Truly–Diversity in Fantasy

I was invited to write an article on diversity in fantasy for Forever Young Adult. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. Here’s the first bit. Click on to read the whole thing. Exploring the Unknown: Diverse Settings and Folklore in YA Sometimes it seems that current YA is drowning in a sea of cookie cutter folklore. Vampires and werewolves and zombies, oh my! I won’t be drinking it–I’ll be the one eating all the free cheese and oh-so-alluring “refreshments.” (What could they be? Meatballs? Crackers? Beanie Weenies? The suspense is killing me!) But in any case, next week, my university is throwing a shindig for all the peoples who published books at the university the past year. They’re inviting the “UMF Community and Friends.” That means you. If you’re reading this,

WorldCon: All Your Base Are Belong to Us Edition

Yes, I’m back from WorldCon, and I’m here to tell all about it. But first off–the important bit. The jawdroppingly stunning fact: I got home 2 hours before I was supposed to! I know. Somehow, somewhere, the travel powers that be decided to smile down upon me. I got on an earlier flight that landed early, so I caught an even earlier bus. Traffic on Labor Day was light. Hell has frozen over, my friends. And all it took was a trip to WorldCon. Okay. Now that that’s out of my system, I’m here to tell you all about my
