Requisite Accountability Post: Goals for 2017 (and Updates for 2018)

2017 is over, in case you missed it. Which means it’s time for me to report out on how I did with my goals from last year. (I’ll discuss my goals for the coming year tomorrow.) Here they are, one by one. Submit another book to editors. Last year I went into the new year with one real hope for a submittable book. UTOPIA. I wasn’t even sure how solid of a book that one was. I’m happy to report that I still got to check off this goal, since I’ve submitted MEMORY THIEF 2 to my editors at Adaptive. […]

Writing Gruesome Scenes

I’m at the climax of MURDER CASTLE at the moment, writing my way through the final scenes of the book. It’s an interesting position to be in, because usually at this point, I find myself just blazing through the word count each day. I know what needs to happen. I know how the characters behave and react. All I have to do is sit back and let it happen. And that’s the case with this scene, but it’s not writing nearly as easily as it usually does. Pushing Through on a Project

I’m 500 words shy of the 60,000 word mark on MURDER CASTLE, and I’ve been tearing through it. I’m far enough into the book to realize there are some significant problems with it.

A Writing Update

As I posted a few days ago, I’m officially done with the third revision of MEMORY THIEF 2, and I’m very relieved, for a number of reasons. First of all, it was a big endeavor. When I went over the changes my editors were asking for, I initially didn’t think it would take too much to get them done. But as I dove into the rewrite and started mucking around, I discovered some of the changes would require structural tweaks that affected quite a bit more than I expected. Really, it wasn’t too big of a job. Nothing I haven’t

Goals for 2017

Still playing catch up with my blog posts from vacation. However, I wanted to take a minute to state online what I want to get done this year. Because goals. In 2016, I was able to do quite a few things I’m proud of. I stuck with my goal to lay off sugar (more or less, though I fell off the wagon *hard* in December). I exercised consistently. I dropped from 217 to 188 pounds. I submitted another book to editors. Big, overarching goals that were all accomplished. I’d like to keep that up. Here are some specifics: Submit another
