Another Commentary

So, I’m not sure how many people actually read these things, but I enjoy writing them.  It gives me a good opportunity to think about my writing and how I do what I do and why.  I have to say, having an audience–even an imaginary one–helps me enormously.  I enjoy writing my blog posts, and I find that they are much different from my daily journal I keep.  I think it’s just something about knowing someone might read what I’m writing that makes a difference.  In any case, Chapter Eight is up, for anyone who wants to read it.  It’s […]

Job Applications and Commentary

As this semester winds down, the job search is heating up.  On Monday I sent out five applications to different libraries–three academic and two public.  This means that, theoretically, I could be moving in as little as a month from now.  Will that happen?  Not likely, especially judging by how my application luck has been thus far.  However, it’s still a possibility.  Even more likely are the impending phone interviews in my future.  I just got a questionnaire from one of the public libraries asking me what my approach would be to handling children of all ages. Another Commentary Up

I just posted the commentary for Chapter Six to my website.  It touches on a few things in passing, from naming to adaptation to description. I don’t have time to say much else.  It’s a whirlwind day today, with writing, homework, cleaning and everything else under the sun.  And I still haven’t caught up on my sleep.  That’s okay–tomorrow March Madness begins, and that should put me in a better mood, until I start losing.

Chapter Four Commentary Turned into a Rant on Characterization

So I wrote and posted my commentary for Cavern of Babel chapter four this morning.  It’s up, and you can view it here, but I have to warn you–I got sidetracked.  Somehow it turned into a debate with myself about characterization and how to do it well.  I don’t think I’m qualified to really give out advice, but I found myself doing it anyway, and I’m not even sure it’s any good.  However, it IS how I approach characterization right now, so take it for what it’s worth.  I’d be interested to see what other people have to say about

Chapter Three Is Up!

I’ve posted the commentary for Chapter Three of Cavern of Babel. This one’s a doozy–it’s got pics of me dressed as Draco Malfoy and mistborn  dressed as Dumbledore, plus other extras. Go check it out! In other news, I was supposed to go skiing today, but the snow has put an end to that. (I don’t think my car would make it up the hill.) So I think I’ll work on prepping some books for submission to publishers. Wish me luck.
