Downton Abbey 5.2: Bringing Sexy Back

(I went ice fishing yesterday, and I’m putting my post on that up tomorrow instead of today. See the love and attention I give you Downton fans? I asked you last week if you were still reading, and you said yes. And here I am, ready to provide your weekly Downton fix.) Let me say right off the bat that I’ve been impressed with this season so far. We’re two episodes in, and there’s only one plot line that’s driving me insane for far. Even then, it’s a plot that’s driven by character choices and not bizarre circumstances (though there’s […]

Downton 5.1 Review

I’ve written before about how much I like routines. They keep me doing things I want to do, but wouldn’t do without that extra nudge to keep doing them. One unfortunate side effect of that? I have a really hard time letting go of things, even when it seems like most of the rest of the country has moved on. Which brings me to Downton Abbey. Back in the day, it seemed like my Facebook feed was crawling with Downtonites. Everybody was posting about the show left and right. I started writing reviews of each episode because I couldn’t help

Downton Finale Review

Sorry for the late post–it’s been a fairly hectic last few days in many different areas of my life. More on that in a day or two, but for now, I’m here to give a report on the finale of Downton’s fourth season, an episode that was really just a home run in my book. Downton Abbey 4.8 Review: Mostly Redeemed

I’m on jury duty again today, so you’re getting this post a bit early. Denisa and I watched the penultimate Downton episode last night, which means this season only has the Christmas episode to go, and we all know what happens then: all fun and games until someone gets in a car crash. So how did this episode go? For the most part, I enjoyed it at last. Short on time, so I’ll jump straight to the rundown: Mary and her suitors. Gather ’round, class. I’m going to teach you how (not) to introduce a new acceptable suitor to replace

Your Weekly Downton Fix: Episode 4.7

Yes, it’s true. The olympics are on, I’m teaching early morning seminary this week, and I still made time to watch Downton yesterday. Why? Because my wife adores the show, really. And she puts up with watching an awful lot of things I love, so I try to reciprocate now and then. And honestly, it’s not that it’s a dreadful experience (well, most of the episode, anyway)–there are still plots I’m genuinely enjoying. But when I have to get up at 5 am the next day, and I’m feeling under the weather, and there’s downhill skiing beckoning from another channel
