A shout out today to my good friend Brandon Sanderson, whose two new books (Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener’s Bones and Mistborn: Hero of Ages) I have recently acquired. For those of you who don’t know Brandon, he’s a fantasy author who typically writes big thick books that could probably be considered lethal weapons in about 38 states. Not a Book Snob, After All

I’m pleased to say I just finished a book I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like epic fantasy along the lines of George R.R. Martin (but with less graphic . . . everything) and Stephen Erikson, might I recommend Acacia? Fantastically written, with great characters and an intriguing plot that goes beyond what’s normally encountered in fantasy today, I really got wrapped up in it and had a great time reading it. Check it out from your local library today. And yes, I’m still sick.

Robert Jordan Passes Away

I just read online that Robert Jordan passed away over the weekend. I know that some people have given his books a hard time as the series wore on, but I just wanted to say that they were and are some of my favorites. I still remember the day I first say Eye of the World in the library, and what an impact that had on me as a reader. I’ve read each of his books as soon as they were released, and I’m very sad to see him go.

Oh–but I did want to say that I saw Stardust on Friday, opening night. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really ought to. Fantastic movie that deserves your support. Think “Princess Bride,” but for a slightly older audience. Super!
