Rifftrax

Enough blogging about my writing for now. Time to switch things up, at least for one day. I don’t recall ever blogging about this before, but if I have, sorry. I just discovered that one of my favorite movie addons–well, the only movie addon I know–has free samples online. Rifftrax is done by the guys who did Mystery Science Theater 3000. Basically, they’ve now created spoof commentaries for actual movies you might have seen (Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc.). You download them from their site, burn them to a cd or put them on your iPod, and synch them with […]

Bruce Willis on Talkbacks in AICN

So this is one of the coolest things I’ve seen an A-list actor ever do.  Bruce Willis saw people were talking about Die Hard 4 (Live Free or Die Hard) being PG-13 instead of R, so he registered himself on Aintitcoolnews and started talking back to them all, defending his movie.  Now mind you, this is Bruce Willis we’re talking about here, so the language on the discussion board is far from PG-13 approved, but still, it was interesting to me to see it all unfold, as some people doubted it was Bruce.  He finally had someone go on to

Huckleberry Finn Presentation

I probably should have blogged about this earlier, but . . . I didn’t.  I forgot.  Sorry.  In any case, tonight at 7pm at the Orem Public Library, I’ll be giving a presentation on Huck Finn film adaptations.  It’s going to last about an hour, and everyone and their brother is invited to come.  If you’re interested in adaptation, Huck Finn or seeing me speak in public, now’s your chance.  I’ll be showing some of the rare adaptations I’ve accumulated in my research–some good, some not so good, and some downright awful.  Be there.  Or not.

High Society

So over the weekend I watched High Society, the musical adaptation of The Philadelphia Story. Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly . . . and it wasn’t nearly as good as the previous version. Don’t get me wrong–it was still a good movie, but it just wasn’t as good as the other. I think it’s a great example of different adaptations of the same source material, and I enjoyed it from an academic standpoint. They changed scenes, revised relationships . . . But anyway, the bottom line is that you should watch Philadelphia Story first, then High Society maybe a

Sort of an Odd Update

So I posted a new article to my website, but it’s a tad strange. It’s a guide to adaptation research.  I’ve done a lot of work in that field, and it’s intended to help anyone interested in researching the topic get a good start.  So if it’s something that interests you, dandy.
