A Short Recap of My Trip to DC

I headed back to Maine today, after quite the trip to Washington DC. I was part of the Maine delegations for ALA’s National Library Legislative Day. In a nutshell, this meant that on Monday I attended meetings where ALA leaders went over the main things they wanted members of Congress to be aware of. Different legislative efforts and funding changes. I also met with the other 5 members from Maine, and we figured out how best to approach Tuesday, where we met with each of our representatives. A few observations on those meetings. First off, I was amazed at how […]

Library Radio/Podcasting with Bryce: An Interview with Pete Hardy

Trust Me: I’m a Librarian

One of the big announcements at Maine Library Association’s annual conference in November was that the Maine State Library had commissioned a survey to find out how trusted our profession is. Right behind nurses, and ahead of pharmacists, medical doctors, and high school teachers. 78%

Maine Library Association Annual Conference

Another MLA annual conference is in the record books, and I for one am very glad to have emerged from the other side. I go to a fair number of conferences each year, but I only actually take part in running one. This one. And it’s made me appreciate how much work goes into a successful conference. There’s a ton of moving parts, and staying on top of all of them can be dizzying. This year’s conference was a great success, I think. We had a record turnout (183, which was 60 more than we had last year). We were

Radio Podcast

Happy Tuesday, everybody! Remember last year when I was doing the weekly radio show for the library? Ever wonder what happened with that? Wonder no more. I loved doing the show, but the time we were on wasn’t exactly making it so many people could listen. Taking an hour out of my week to be on the radio was certainly fun, but without anyone listening, I couldn’t really justify keeping it up. We talked to the radio folks, and they agreed (generously) to let us record our show ahead of time and then play it on the air during our
