Lack of Updates

I know I’m doing a terrible job of updating my blog. The sad thing is, there just isn’t that much to update right now. Still waiting on the internet to get hooked up at my house, and I don’t spend a ton of extra time at work when I can post. So what am I up to?

Unpacking, lawn mowing, furniture buying and assembling, shopping–fun home-owner type stuff. I went to another auction on Saturday, and I enjoyed that. Got some nice antique furniture for a steal–always nice.

Writing-wise, I’m working on planning out my next novel. Getting the characters down and the main plot points. The magic system is based in linguistic theory, so I’m waiting on a few books before I flesh it out fully, which in turn will have an impact on the plot. There are some good things brewing in my mind, though–I’m feeling quite positive about this book.

  1. No, Ichabod is still shelved–I’m giving the book time to breathe before I go back to it. I don’t think I’ll need to revise it heavily, and since I just barely made one manuscript submission-worthy (and it had been over a year since I had a new one of those) I’m not in a huge rush to get this one out. In other words, I’d like to avoid having such a big gap between my submissions again if there doesn’t need to be. The current plan is to outline this current book and then let it rise while I’m rewriting Ichabod. I think it helps me to be able to think about plots a bit more before I go off and write the actual books.

  2. I miss me in writing group, too. Remember my offer to read your stuff, though. I mean it.
Any word back from Steve about your latest? I got a brief email from Joshua telling me he was reading it, but nothing since then. That was about a week ago, so I’m thinking the best I can hope for now is a “you need to make changes” sort of thing.

  3. I haven’t heard anything. It’s been almost a month, which would seem normal except for how little time it took last time. I’m thinking suggested changes is about all I can hope for too.
I plan to send you the book for my thesis when it’s done. I’m not revising the vampire book any more until I get a mandate from an editor or an agent. Then, however, I may need more comments.
I do mean to get to your book, but this semester is CRAZY. In the future, when I am not engaged and writing a thesis at the same time, I really want to read Ichabod and this next book of yours when it’s ready.
