Grumpy Old Vampires

So today I was reading a writing group submission by raisinfish , and it got my brain working in an interesting direction.  I’ve been looking for ideas on how to make my website unique, and one idea I’ve been toying with is to have a webseries, sort of like webcomics, except written, not drawn.  Ultimately, I’d update them weekly, and people could tune in once a week to see what comes next.  The idea has some merit–even if it’ll take a lot of work to make it fly.  But I was missing a good idea–one that would work on a […]

A Three Hour Tour

So I went to play a game with friends today: Twilight Imperium.  And it was pretty darn cool.  Who was there, you ask?  It was held in honor of Fellfrosch’s birthday, and Spriggan, Skar, Love Basket, Fell, Matt and Alan all came.  Why Matt and Alan don’t have nearly as cool nicknames as the rest is beyond me, but there you have it.  House of Mustard was going to come, but he sicked out on us.  We got together at 9 in the morning, started playing at 10:30, and then finished at 6:30.  That’s right: 8 hours of non-stop gaming.

The First Crusade for Dummies

Gasp!  I just realized that I didn’t post anything yesterday.  I fail as a blogger.  Oh well–give me a second to get over it. All better now.  It’s not like all that much happened yesterday, anyway.  I mean, I watched Rush Hour 2 in the evening–how exciting of a day could it have been? I just posted another paper I wrote back in college, this one about the military tactics used by the First Crusaders to capture Jerusalem.  If you’re looking for something basic (it was written by Freshman-Me, after all), and are interested in military history, by all means,

Chapter Four Commentary Turned into a Rant on Characterization

So I wrote and posted my commentary for Cavern of Babel chapter four this morning.  It’s up, and you can view it here, but I have to warn you–I got sidetracked.  Somehow it turned into a debate with myself about characterization and how to do it well.  I don’t think I’m qualified to really give out advice, but I found myself doing it anyway, and I’m not even sure it’s any good.  However, it IS how I approach characterization right now, so take it for what it’s worth.  I’d be interested to see what other people have to say about

The Experiment Is Working

Progress on Ichabod’s going great.  The switch to first person is working out well, and the book feels much better.  Even more interesting to me, I’m discovering that it’s possible to have a plot outline and still feel spontaneous.  Well, it’s not as if my plot outline was ultra specific, but still, I have a plan of what’s to happen each step of the way.  My fear had been that I wouldn’t want to write the book if I had an outline.  I enjoy finding out what happens as I write it.  But now that I’m trying this, I still
