The Holidays Continue

I’m taking a four day weekend this weekend. Why? Because I wanted to. So today I learned how to carve wooden spoons for a couple of hours, I took a nap, decluttered some, and this evening we’re having friends over, and I’m going to see if it’s possible to get an over-the-air HD signal here at my house. A much more laid back day today than yesterday, and I’m not going to congest it with a lengthy blog post. Have a nice weekend, all. See you on Monday.

Mikulas and Santa Claus

Yesterday, Mikulas came to visit our house. For those of you who aren’t Slovak, that means TRC and DC spiffied up their shoes two nights ago, then left them out. In the morning, voila! The shoes were filled with candy and some small presents. TRC got a WALL-E spinning toothbrush, and DC got a little puppy stuffed animal. They went over very well. Of course, this is also the first year that TRC has gone to school, which means it’s the first year he could tell other kids all about how excited he was that Mikulas had come, only to have

Happy Halloween!

In honor of the holiday, TRC and I had a little pre-Halloween party yesterday evening while DKC was working. We watched It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, both of which TRC thought were hilarious. We ate candy corn, and I got him a small Lightning McQueen car (he’s Lightning McQueen this year). He had a blast. I put him to bed and watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse, which was about as bad as I expected it to be. Lots of things went boom, and there were zombies aplenty (which was my reason to watch it–trying

New Year

Time for a new year’s post, I suppose. I’m back from vacation in Pennsylvania, which was nice, even if all of us got sick for most of the time we were gone. I came home yesterday to find a monster heating bill (heating oil=bad) and the dishwasher leaking. Not as bad as my sister, who came home to a flooded basement, but still–who said that one person’s troubles have to be compared to others’? It still was a not nice surprise. For my writing time recently I’ve been reading a book on characterization by Orson Scott Card, as well as

Happy Thanksgiving (and Update)

I’m down in Pennsylvania for the holiday and having a great time. Yesterday my wife and I headed into New York City to go see Young Frankenstein, which thankfully isn’t affected by the Broadway strike. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Great music, acting and fantastic sets. I couldn’t believe they pulled off some of the things they did on that stage. We also went to the New York Macy’s, which we discovered has 9–count ’em NINE–floors of stuff to buy. I had no idea it was that big. This morning I managed to get a $280 22″ LCD computer monitor for
