Colbert Report

I love this show. I’ve been watching it even more closely the past few days since Colbert’s broadcasting from Philadelphia. Good times. And here, for your linking pleasure, is a great fusion of two things I like: Colbert and explaining why Wikipedia isn’t always a good thing. I know–you’re all saying Wikipedia is the best thing since ftp, but the librarian in me shudders when I find students on campus who use it in “scholarly” papers. Come on, people. The wisdom of the masses is sometimes not worth a whole lot. And there are other electronic resources out there. Just […]

If You Ever

Note to self: If you ever commit to doing something and even put it down on your planner that you’re going to do it, you really ought to look at your planner now and then to remind yourself that you committed to doing that thing you committed to doing. Raving

I think fantasy writers have done the world a great disservice. Books and movies alike, it’s all the same. Mice are presented as cute and cuddly little things that sing and dance and have a blast doing mousy things. Think about it. In film we have things like Mickey Mouse, An American Tail, Cinderella, The Great Mouse Detective, The Rats of N.I.M.H., Ratatouille, Flushed Away. Literature has Stuart Little, the Redwall series, David Farland’s Of Mice and Magic. All full of mice singing and dancing and carousing. Anything in film or literature that might put the little critters in danger

Funny Anecdote

I couldn’t resist posting about this. I was IMing an unnamed female recently, and here’s a transcript of the beginning of the conversation: Bryce: (knock knock) Other: Who’s there? Bryce: 🙂 Do you have a sec? Other: For you?  I have all the secs you need. Bryce: Glad that wasn’t said out loud Bryce: 😉 Other: Oh crap. Bryce: lol Other: I just read that out loud. Other: That really wasn’t what I meant. Other: Where’s the “embarrased” emoticon… Too funny.
